BMS376   Membrane Trafficking   (10 credits)

Year Running: 2017/2018
Credit level: F6

Description

Many diseases arise from defects in core machinery associated with cell membrane dynamics. The aim of this module is understand fundamental aspects of membrane dynamics including vesicular trafficking, membrane contact sites and autophagy. Using specific diseases as exemplars, we will explore how defects in membrane dynamics at the cellular levels have profound effects on thew whole organism. Emphasis will be placed on the experimental evidence that underpin our current models of cell dynamics in health and disease. Informal journal club presentations describing seminal discoveries will be a key component of the module.
